Raksha Bandhan Special Recipes – Rakhsha Bandhan is an auspicious occasion that comes once a year and is celebrated by all sister and brothers around our country and abroad with grand festivities.  It holds a special significance in Indian culture.  The charm of Rakhsha Bandhan lies in the profound devotion and warmth between a brother and a sister. There is so much more than just tying a Rakhi on the brothers’ hand. You can also send rakhi to India for your brother across the miles.

Raksha Bandhan Special Recipes

Stuffed Capsicum Recipe

Ingredients

Half kg bell peppers (5 -6 medium sized capsicum)
2 tbsp oil
1/2 kg boiled potatoes ( peel and mash them)
2 green chilly
1 tbsp chopped garlic
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp red chili powder
1/2 tsp mango powder
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

Method

In a frying pan, add oil and chopped green chillies. Then add dry spices, salt and boiled potatoes. Mix all the masalas properly with potatoes. Now cut off the stem of the capsicums, scope out and remove all the seed from inside. Cut the base of capsicum to see that it stands. Now stuff each capsicum with the potato filling pressing it flat over the top to avoid spillage. Roast in oven for 15 minutes till capsicum is soft. Serve it hot.

Pineapple Halwa

Ingredients

1 cup roasted Semolina (Rawa)
3/4 cup Ghee
1 cup sugar
2 cups water
1 tsp powdered Cardamon (Elaichi)
1 cup chopped Pineapple
1 cup Pineapple Puree
A few nuts and Raisins

Method

Heat half the ghee in a pan, add the pineapple puree and sugar and stir for 5 minutes. Cook till soft and mushy. Now add 2 cups water and bring to a boil. When the water boils, add the semolina back to the pan and mix it well. Cook the halwa on low flame till the ghee leaves the side of pan. Garnish with nuts and serve hot.

Dahi Ke Kebab

Ingredients


500 gms curd
2 tbsp besan
1 chopped onion
1 green chilly
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp grated ginger
1/2 tsp black pepper powder
2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
Salt to taste
Oil for frying

Method

Take curd and hang it in a muslin cloth and letting the whey drip out. Keep it till the texture thickens and it looks like soft paneer. Heat the gram flour in a a frying pan till golden brown. In a mixing bowl, add the gram flour, chopped onion, coriander leaves, grated ginger, chilly and dry spices. Mix it together lightly. Flatten the dough and make cutlets. Shallow fry on both sides. Serve with green chutney.

Til Walle Aloo

Ingredients

250 gms boiled and peeled baby potatoes
1/2 mustard seeds
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 cup Tamarind pulp
I tbsp Oil
Few curry leaves
Finely chopped coriander leaves
Salt to taste
1 tsp til ( sesame seeds )

Method

Take oil in a frying pan, add mustard seeds and curry leaves and let it splutter. Add the peeled potatoes, chili powder and haldi. MIx till the potatoes get coated with the masalas. Mix the tamarind paste and salt. Let it become semi dry. Toss in the sesame seeds and chopped coriander leaves. Serve like a starter.

Raksha Bandhan Special Recipes

Shahi Phirni

Ingredients

1 bowl basmati rice
3 tbsp ghee
1 litre milk
2 tbsp condensed milk
cups sugar
2 tsp saffron
1 tsp cardamom powder
Handful of chopped nuts

Method

Soak and cook the basmati rice till soft. Grind the rice in a mixer to form a paste. Take a large bottom pan, add milk, sugar, cardamom powder, condensed milk and give it a boil. Now add the rice paste and make it thick. Chill the phirni in bowls. Garnish with nuts and serve.
